In the Contemporary Arts Center the artist Swoon is being showcased on the 3rd and 4th floor. On the third floor Swoon’s “Submerged Motherlands,” can be seen. The piece is a cut out made of cardboard and paper. Submerged Motherlands is a large scale piece, around 20 feet in height. The size helps for viewers to see every bit of detail on the work from top to bottom. Swoon created the piece in a third person point of view, allowing us to see all that is going on it the piece rather than one of the figures present in the artwork.The piece is surreal but contains six recognizable figures. Within the artwork an image of a woman with an infant in her arms. The baby is wearing overalls and is facing the viewer. The woman's lower abdomen is skeletal, only her pelvis bone remains.
