Whigs Both Democrats The Whigs led by John Quincy Adams The Whigs got there name from the name for the Patriots of the American Revolution who were called "Whigs". They were very strong parties and they did not like each other very much. They were united in a common goal though and that was to achieve a prosperous U.S. The Democrats led by Andrew Jackson. The Democrats got there name from the Jeffersonian Republicans. Writing Assignment Using your Venn diagram as a starting point, write a complete paragraph that compares/contrasts the Democratic and Whig parties of the 1800s. Write a topic sentence that introduces the subject and states an opinion. Then support that with 3 – 5 good examples.
