Defining Crime- - Who decides what actions constitute crimes? o Society relatively decides what is a crime by voting people into office, petitioning for laws, etc. o People who want to save face to the public/be re-elected emphasize certain laws more than others. o State Legislatures o Governor Governor Inslee is taking a position on “capital punishment” i.e. aggravated first degree murder, while he is governor no one will be killed on death row. o Congress o President o Courts o Media Makes people feel a certain way about certain things to establish them as being either formally or informally not-okay (illegal v. non-popular opinion).
