Journal #3 Agricultural & Food Controversies, Chapter 2,3 & 8 1 Reading the chapters for this week’s journal was very insightful as it made me more aware about the effects of farming, my food intake and at the same time caused me to rise more questions about whether we can or should trust the food industry with the food that they are providing us with. The readings have also sparked my concern for my friends and family’s health as many of them are obese and do not care for their health. I have recently switched my food consumption for more organic produce to avoid the use of pesticides on nonorganic produce; however, after reading these chapters, I have been wondering whether these organic foods that I have been buying for myself will eventually cause me more health problems in the long run instead of nonorganic food? In chapter 2 and 3, the authors discuss about the controversies on pesticides and chemical fertilizers on crops that have the potential risk towards human health and the environment. In our daily life, we are constantly being exposed to chemicals from our food. If we are exposed to these chemicals at an unsafe amount of dosage, it can cause a variety of neurological disorder or even cancer. It is ironic how some consumers want their food to be chemical free, but they do not want to pay for a more for it and complain when it is expensive. Many people, including myself,
