August 30, 2007 MC 201 – Prof. L’Argent Federalist Papers Quiz September 18 Lecture Review First Third : Telling us the crisis state of the world today; it is up to us as future policy makers to know how to fix the problems. Political Division : partisan divided government; the dems will pick up more seats: democratic congress but republican Presidency (worst approval ratings ever – no political clout). Ratings were up in May because of the surge of involvement, which caused the jump in ratings. The Judicial branch: being overturned/judicial shift. Economic Crisis : 1% owns the top 30%, the next third is 9%, and the final 90% owns the final third. Anyone in the top third is 90 times wealthier than the bottom third. This means that .04 of the people worked their way up to the top 1%. The rest of the money is “old money”. It is very difficult to jump from class to class. Wealth begets Wealth – this graph is new – wages have not improved for 30 years and have actually declined, while GNP has increased. China owns most of our debt, so we are becoming a colony to Asia.
