Advantages and Disadvantages of Polymerase Chain Reaction Advantage 1. One advantage of PCR is that it is very sensitive. The DNA of interest can be amplified with the DNA from just one cell. Thus, very small amounts of starting material can be used. Also, old or degraded DNA very often yields enough starting material to amplify the DNA of interest. 2. Amplification of large copies of specific DNA sequences Can be done with multiplex PCR reactions 3. Rapid/Quick result Usually within 1 day for PCR 4. Contaminant DNA (fungal and bacterial sources) will not amplify This is because human-specific primers are used 5. Less technically difficult than traditional cloning method (Recombinant DNA

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
