Kenney 1 Amanda Kenney Professor Caskey GSS-212-870 December 10 th 2017 0 Earlier this year I began binge watching the teen drama, “Pretty Little Liars” on Netflix. The show has a character named Emily Fields, who hides her sexual preference from her friends and family. Emily and her best friend who disappeared, Allison were secretly in love, but nothing ever came of it since she disappeared, and Emily has a boyfriend. Since the first season of the show, Emily struggles with her sexuality. She has a boyfriend, but finds herself attracted to girls. She is scared to come out at first because she does not want her mother and father to disown her. Even though she is scared to come out as a lesbian, she ends up coming out to her family, and her mother was upset at first and sickened, while her father was somewhat understanding. While reading Finding out, Alexander, Meem, and Gibson talked about how LGBTQ characters have become more visible in movies and TV shows in the last ten years. LGBTQ characters started out in small roles starting in the 1970s. There was a show by the name of The
