XXXXXXX 5/12/2009 English 101 Observation Assignment I stand at the foot of this tall wooden beast. I hear the Wolfline bus zoom on by followed by a long line of cars whose drivers are probably annoyed at being behind a bus as they usually are. Near the corner next to Harris Hall stands this Cypress tree. It is missing its color and leaves due to winter’s chill. The trees natural process to abandon its foliage in favor of saving its energy to survive through winter causes its bare look. There is a smell of dirt and cigarettes surrounding the tree. The cigarettes smell most likely due to people who leave their stubs in the soil surrounding the tree. The tree fits in with the surrounding environment because it resides in a line of other trees and shrubs. NC State is a colossal brick beast and the additions of trees such as this Cypress tree are needed to create a balance between manmade and natural objects within the campus. I would imagine that through the day, many animals would use this tree as their
