Amanda Balash 10 th Grade 3.1 Section Review 1. Which life zone is more productive, the neritic or the oceanic? Explain. The neritic zone is much more productive than the oceanic because rivers that contain runoff from the land flow into the neritic zone. Also, much of the neritic zone’s depths are sunlit, so algae, phytoplankton, and marine plants can carry out photosynthesis. 2. How are some benthic organisms adapted to live in turbulent waters? These organisms have to be adapted to very low temperatures and very high pressures depending on the depth the live at. Some Benthic organisms have roots to keep them grounded in the water. Other have flat shells that reduce the pull the water has on them. Some organisms burrow down into the sand to stay safe. 3. Why might it be hard for deep-sea fish to find food? What adaptions do they have for this? They have to be able to catch their food in the darkness. Also, not many other organisms live that deep in the ocean so they have to be super aware of their surroundings. The angler fish, forexample, has a huge mouth and long sharp teeth to help him catch his prey in the dark. It even has a light over its mouth which always the fish to see the prey. Other deep sea fish has under bites so that they can catch the scraps of food that fall from shallower waters.3.2 Section Review 1. What factors influence zonation along a sandy beach? The sand and harsh winds cause only a few plants to live there. Also, all the plants that live there have to be adapted to high amounts of salt. Trees grow shorter towards the beach and higher towards the land.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
