Science Fiction Essay 3: Social Structure and InteractionIn The Hunger Gameswritten by Suzanne Collins, social interactionsare essential throughout life and play a large role in the social structureof the country of Panem. The statusvaries greatly between the people of the districts and The Capitol. Katniss, like many others born in the districts have no control over their ascribed statushowever they have a chance to achieve statusthrough The Hunger Games. Before and during the games Katniss and Peeta both had to play a roleto try and win sponsors from the secondarygroup, which would help keep them alive against all the other tributes, the primary group. Peeta’s role performancewas played out perfectly because the people of The Capitol believed he was desperately in love with Katniss. Katniss was confused on her role expectationuntil Haymitch sent her signs through the gifts they received from sponsors. Katniss suffered role conflictbecause she knew she was not in love withPeeta but she wanted to win the games and help Peeta. By doing this she exited her normal self-identity
