La  sumatoria o sumatorio  (llamada tambi é notaci ó n sigma  ) es una operaci ó n matem á tica  que se emplea para calcular la suma de muchos o infinitos sumandos. La operaci ó sumatoria  se expresa con la letra griega sigma may ú scula  , Σ   y se representa as í : Expresi ó n que se lee: "  sumatoria  de Xi,  donde i toma los valores desde 1 hasta n  ". i es el valor inicial, llamado l í mite inferior. n es el valor final, llamado l í mite superior.
