Unformatted text preview: Origins Reflection Carol Gottschalk April 2018 CWV-101 J. Thomas Creation Account From Genesis 1-2 • Genesis describes creation as happening in 7 days. • This is open to interpretation. • Does it mean 6, 24 hour days? • Or does it happen as an extended time the God considers a ’day’? Creation Account From Genesis 1-2 • Day 1: God creates Light and Darkness, he separates them into day and night. • Day 2: God creates the Clouds and Oceans, he divides the two. • Day 3: God creates dry land, and all the vegetation that is on it. Grass, fruit trees etc. Creation Account From Genesis 1-2 • Day 4: God creates the Sun and Moon, he orders one to control the light of day and one to control the light of night. • Day 5: God creates the Air and water animals. • Day 6: God creates all the land animals and also mankind. Creation Account From Genesis 1-2 • On day 7, God rests and says that all he has created is good. • God also sanctifies the seventh day, so that man may also rest on the seventh, just as he did. • Heavens and Earth are created and God is happy with his work. Personal Beliefs About the Origins of the Universe • According to the text book, there are three ideologies surrounding the creation of the universe. • Young Earth Creationism • Old Earth Creationism • Evolutionary Creationism (Theistic) Personal Beliefs About the Origins of the Universe • Young Earth Creationism • This theory is based solely on the actual statements of the Bible. • The Earth was created in 6, 24hour days. Just as the days we have now. • Believe that when the Bible states a single day, that God was speaking clearly and literally and that’s how we should interpret it. Personal Beliefs About the Origins of the Universe • Old Earth Creationism • Biblical recollection was an extended historical event. • Creation occurred over a long period of time. • Coincides with modern science. Personal Beliefs About the Origins of the Universe • Theistic/Evolution Creationism • Belief that creation evolved just as scientist say. • Powered by God Personal Beliefs About the Origin of the Universe • I believe in a mixture of Old Earth Creationism and Evolutionary. • I believe our timeline can be solved by modern science, and shown geologically in Earths crust. Personal Beliefs About the Origin of the Universe • I believe God was/is the powerhouse behind all things. • I believe that the Earth was created over a long period of time, and in that time I think that God powered evolution. • Evolution would have taken thousands and thousands of years, I think that maybe God used that time during the extended creation to prefect certain creatures. How My Beliefs About Origins Impact My Worldview • I am open minded. I am not set strictly in my ways. I believe that the Bible, like all things philosophical are open for interpretation. • My agreeance with scientist makes it easier for my to interact with those of different world views than I. • I believe that God is the powerhouse behind all things. • I believe that science can show what God created. How My Beliefs About Origins Impact My Worldview • My beliefs that God created the Universe initializes my belief in God and praise of him as our creator. • With this belief I also believe all other parts of the Bible, thus leading me to believe that God only can judge and save us from an eternity in hell. How My Beliefs About Origins Impact My Worldview • God commanded man in Genesis to care for the Earth. • I believe that we as humankind, and humanity should care for the earth and the animals it withholds. • I believe that humanity has the power to be good, however in society today, we do not always choose that route.
