iPSC Technology Summary 1. Okay as we have learned from Scott, we know that stem cells are the building blocks of life. We know that scientists have discovered that if we take the embryo out, and use those stem cells they can be used as fully functional cells that we can use for regenerative medicine. 1. Today I am going to introduce you to Shinya Yamanka, he was an orthopedic surgeon, and he found out that a lot of people would come to him with spinal cord injuries, but during that time period there was limited treatment and there was not much he could do for them. This frustrated Yamanka so much that he asked himself, what if I could make own stem cells? What if I could take something like for example skin cells and then force them into doing what I want them to do? He dedicated 10 years of his life into researching this, So, Basically Yamanka took these skin cells that could ONLY function as skin cells and turned them into cells that can become any type of cell by using 4 factors. And
