BU 601 Strategic Management The Strategy-Resource Linkage After analyzing a strategic plan in the strategy-environment linkage, it is important to move the analysis forward towards an operational definition of your strategic proposal and consider specific resource requirements. This is necessary because you require resources in order to execute your strategic proposal, providing your business with the potential to act. Resources can be tangible such as your marketing, operations or manufacturing capabilities, intangible related to brand or company reputation or organizational capabilities like processes, routines and company culture. It is also important to note that your resources can act as both a driver or constraint towards your strategy, referred to as the dual role of resources. For example, if your strategy is growth does the firm have the resources to grow and if not, can the strategy be modified to take into consideration the available resources? On the driving side of resources, a strategy can potentially be driven by a competitive resource advantage within your firm so identifying a competitive resource is key to the success of your proposed strategy. For a resource to be considered a competitive advantage it must be very difficult and
