McClish October 28, 2017 Journal 6 Sam and Frodo Tolkien’s weaving of companionship throughout the story is a driving force by which the evolutions made within each character’s life can be observed. Inside every person, there is a constant battle between good and evil. In Lord of the Rings, the Ring has a dramatic effect on every person who comes into contact with it. It does this by pushing its own evil onto each bearer and magnifying any sense of evil already existing within them. Each evil found within someone is not always rooted in spite, but it can be drawn forth from any trait. Much like the old Chinese proverb, “too much of anything is bad”. Knowing where to push and where to draw back is more important than even the knowledge of how to accomplish something. As Frodo and Sam continue their journey, they continue to face off against evil. In their present position, the companions find themselves in the Land of Mordor where evil has permeated everything.
