Muhammad Fikri Bin Idrus Saidi Managing Oracle Instance Part 1 -Database Start up and shut down - Initialization Parameters -Instances of database contains of : Memory structure and background process Database Startup flow: There are 2 type of initialization parameters file that is spfile(server parameter file) and pfile(parameter file). -Need to identify whether we used spfile because there is many advantages. It is because this spfile is a dynamic file. This means we can make changes in initialization parameter while the instance is running while when we make changes in pfile we need to restart the instances. -Control file is binary file that give oracle full intelligence as to database, spfile is kind of instance/database registry , control file have specified information regarding the active database or in other words where we will find the datafile and redo logs. -Control file and redo logs are intend to protect the data file. -Background process- database writer , log writer and checkpoint process -dirty – refers to data has not been commited to disk. It only exist only memory. -When Checkpoint occurs the database writer will write any dirty buffer from the database buffer cache to datafile where they will be permanently recorded and log writer process will write redo information.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
