Beale 1 Jonathan Beale Professor Joni Hannigan Com 113 16 August 2016 The Purpose of Speech Ethos is an important trait in giving a meaningful speech. Ethos is personal credibility or character traits that make a speaker believable and worthy of the audience’s confidence. Ethos is basically the person who is giving the speech. Like in the video we watched last week of the girl from Canada who gave a speech about what the future might hold if we continue our ways, she used ethos in her speech when she described who she was and why she was there. Pathos can be defined as appeals or reasons directed towards audience emotions. Pathos is how the speech is told to convince the audience. Things that can be used to help convince the audience is to know your audience and link common interest to the audience to make them more interested in a speech. Things that can be used is linking the subject of the speech to core beliefs, values, personal goals, and emotions (298).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
