Informative Speech Topic: Over population of California Prisons Objective: Give a general knowledge about the over population of California Prisons and how it became that way. Visual Aid: Graphs that show the change in prison population over the past years. INTRODUCTION I. Do you ever think about the increasing prison population? II. Since 1994 to 2004, the Three Strikes Law that was implemented to reduce crime, has increased the incarceration of 87,500 inmates. (Brown and Jolivette, 2005). III. Did the Three Strikes Law really reduce the crime or did it just fill up our prisons? IV. I will discuss the increase in prison population and how the Three Strikes Law is unfair and should be adjusted to only effect inmates who are committed of violent crimes. BODY I. First let me tell you about what the Three Strikes Law is. a. The Three Strikes Law states that anyone who commits three felonies will be sentenced to life in prison. (Brown and Jolivette, 2005).
