Chapter 13: Strategic Leadership by Top ExecutivesAccording to study leadership in different level of managers inorganization, there has been increased interest in “strategic leadership”by top executives in recent year. This chapter will help examine relevanttheories and research on strategic leadership in organizations. Besidesthat, in term of practice, it will explain more the influence as well as whathas been learned about importance of executives for the performance oflarge organizations. The most important research viewpoint in strategic leadership isquestioned that “How leaders influence organizational performance”. Inorder to understand the way of influence well, it is much better if thereader can acknowledge determinants on organizational performancefirst. This chapter verified three types of performance determinants veryclearly including adaptation to the environment, efficiency and processreliability and human resources and relations. From that, leaders canenhance the performance determinants with a combination of methods,consisting of leadership behaviors, changes in programs, systems, and
