Higuera 1Clarisa HigueraProfessor Knowlton English 10418 October 2016Rightest About EnglishStandard English enforced in class is a controversial question because regardless of your culture, race, or school educational system everyone has a different opinion based on their experiences with English. Enforcing standard English is a complex question because its is not a simple yes or no answer. In my English 104 class, that I am recently taking at SFSU when my classmates and I took a vote if we were for or against Standard English to be a force in classes noone seemed to have a clear yes or no answer. The majority of the class were in the middle of the spectrum because they were undecided or just felt that it shouldn't be enforced but we should have some type of “normal English”. By “normal English” we defined it as a basic writing style that everyone should be able to write in, in other words, a traditional style for every person regardless of race, school district, or education. To have a better understanding of the question, should students and professors enforce standard English?, my classmates and I took a look at a diverse group of authors and public speakers, from TED.com, and how they approached standard English based on their childhood and adult experiences. All had different ways of approaching their English experiences and there were no authors that approached it the same some might have some similarities but no author hadan identical story. Something that I learned from reading the articles and hearing the TED Talks that was everyone had based their answer to their experiences and how they dealt with English. I believe that standardize English should be enforced in school and seen as a "normal English", but
