PARENTING STYLES GREATLY IMPACT CHILDREN 3 Relationship Between Different Parenting Styles and the Impact They Carry on Children Introduction to Parenting Styles As individuals growing up we learn many different factors such as but not limited to culture, theories, parenting styles, and behaviors merely shape who we are and define how we will become through our lifespan. Multiple studies by theorists identified four styles of parenting dimensions that greatly impact the life of a child both positive and negatively. Through such studies theorists also concluded that parenting styles also define the characteristics of a child and are often predictive in nature (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). Moving forward, it is proven that parenting styles play a vital role in the social development of a child. According to Broderick and Blewitt (2015), our text presents four different styles of parenting better known as authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglecting-uninvolved (pg. 180-181). A parent that holds an authoritative style are both highly responsive and demanding which contribute to the child’s autonomy of self. Positive and emotional climate in promoting their autonomy and implementing assertiveness and individuality (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015 pg. 181). Another study showed authoritative styles based on reasoning, understanding, consensus and trust resulted in a pro-social behaviors (Menseh & Kuranchie, 2013). In contrast, another style referred to as authoritarian style is similar to the authoritative style but, not equal to the same. Consequently, this style of parenting shares low responsiveness yet remain highly demanding and vacates the positive emotional climate. For the child, this style does not encourage them to strive individually and vacate such assertiveness needed for success. However, the authoritarian parenting style tends to exercise control considerably, thus making maturity demands while sharing conformity to their rules and parenting (Broderick & Blewitt,
