Kimberly Rainey February 4, 2018 CJUS 601-B02/Dr. Dennis F3 M3 Original Thread Post Using Official Crime Data Discussion When it comes to the measure of crime official data can be an essential element for the accuracy of such measuring. In the criminal justice system official crime data are those that derive from the normal functions therein (Mosher, Miethe, & Hart, 2011). For one to better comprehend, manage, and explain crime accurate counts of its occurrence is equally important. According to the text official counts of crime include that of police reports of offences and arrests, charges filed by prosecutors, criminal complaints and indictments, imprisonment data, and prison releases (Mosher, Miethe, & Hart, 2011). Even though there are many sources for the data collection, the most inclusive official measure of crime involves reports made by police for criminal incidents (Mosher, Miethe, & Hart, 2011). There are also issues with official crime data and questions whether the data is of accuracy. When evaluating official crime data many variables should be carefully considered into account such as the number of legally counted pursuits of crimes that are reported and recorded by the police officially.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
