2. Executive Summary The social movement of Black Lives Matter (BLM) has recently raised wide spread social awareness all over the world. This study report introduces some basic situations of the campaign through social research and media press reports. Specially, the study examines the posts and comments released on social media platforms such as Twitter. The social evolvement of such views is widely analyzed through building on the power-holder and friends-foes map. The findings imply that subsequent strategies including fundraising, digital activism, social community, media, and politics are major factors for the movement. As a result, the effective application of the strategy generates positive results for the society. The authors take quantitative and qualitative perspectives to illustrate the outcome, and further suggestions for BLM. 3. Background to the Issues 3.1. Identifying the problems/issues the campaign aims to address Nowadays, racial discrimination, especially against black people, has become a major issue that the whole world has seriously considered. There have been several movements and protests taking place, especially in America. One of the most prominent and influential movements is the BLM. The BLM campaign converges several characteristics to be classified as a social movement. In detail, firstly, BLM includes groups and organizations, large and small, controversial and mature, involving individual members with varying degrees of involvement and encouraging them to act (Johnston 2014, p.7).Secondly, social movements are unique because they are guided in a purposeful and strategic manner by the participants. Another important characteristic is that they mobilize and carry out their business activities in the established political and institutional channels (Johnston 2014, p.1). In the case of BLM, from Alicia Garza – co-founder of BLM – BLM is “an ideological and political intervention in a world where Black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. It is an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression”. Furthermore, since 17-year- old Trayvon Martin, an African American boy was killed by George Zimmerman, and many other cases of killing blacks by police, the BLM campaign has spread throughout the world. From Europe to Africa, people have been involved in the protests for their rights, racial justice, and against the abuse of police forces (Winsor, M 2016).Thus, this campaign becomes a new social movement, which are the main forces of social change in the modern world (Johnston 2014, p.1).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
