Introduction to the Muscular System Muscle is quite an amazing tissue. It is composed of cells that are capable of actively changing shape via a contractile cytoskeleton. We cover some of the details of contraction when we talk about the nervous system, but your first two muscle labs will focus on the form and function of the tissue itself. We will first look from a superficial standpoint at what muscles do by examining whole bodies in motion. We will then take a look at how muscles are organized at a gross anatomical level, and how different groups of muscles work to perform functions observed. Third, we will identify muscles within some of these each group. Finally, we will use compound light microscopy to observe the features of muscle cells and tissues that permit these interesting and important functions.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
