Introduction
Instagram is a mobile applicate for photo and video sharing, advertisement and socialising either privately or publicly. Its main competitors are Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Tumbir. Instagram was created and launched in 2010 by Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom as a free App, which can be downloaded only by Apple App stores. Later in 2012 after two year of it first launched, Instagram introduced Android devices as another App store which Instagram can be download from. [Ste14][Wor17].
In April 2012, Facebook takes over Instagram by paying $1billion to buy it from the finders, that does not stop Instagram from innovation or growing. [Wor17].

This report will be writing about Instagram nature of innovation in the social media industry, considering open innovation as Instagram nature of innovation in the social media industry will be used to analyse and discuss the nature of innovation.
In this report, main driver such as sustainable development, and demographic which is believe to encourage Instagram to innovate in its industry will be look into. There are some factors considering to be hindered for Instagram to innovate within its industry, such as limited funding and resources, lack of follow through, and lack of time. And Enabler such as individual level, Instagram AD, and internet accessibility will be consider to be an Enabler of innovation for Instagram. This report will also look in Instagram innovation in terms of if it is disruptive innovation in the industry.

There is different type of innovation in which social media industries operate, however, this report will be talking about open innovation in which can be argue Instagram operates.

According to Henry Chesbrough (2003), open innovation is designed for innovating company partnership with outside company to share knowledge in terms of reducing innovation risk during innovation and the outcome reward after the innovation process.
However, there are also another innovation called closed innovation. Closed innovation is opposite of open innovation because, it does not share ideas or knowledge during and after innovation process with external organisation.
