The City of Lust Paris is often referred to as “the city of love”. The stereotype of intense and frequent romance of Parisians is one seen in media all over. The short film, “ Paris, Je t'aime : Bastille” promotes this common stereotype in a unique way, and exploits other settings often portrayed in films or novels about the city. Shot on location, the film begins in a small and quaint restaurant in Paris, with a low, steady music playing in the background. The sound of dishes clinking together is also heard, as well as cars beeping in the background during an initial shot above the city. The first character we see is a wealthy man sitting at a table in this cafe. The wife he refers to is also presumably fairly wealthy, and wears a fashionable red trench coat. This social group, the well-educated upper class, is one commonly associated with the city. The entire film focuses on this group, with minimal interaction with any other.
