Emily Strauss 2/05/2018 English 11B Nick Carraway Self-Improvement Plan In The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway is the story’s narrator. He sees himself as very well- rounded and honest. Nick is shown to be more down to earth than the other characters in the novel. He is seen to be a very grounded individual. He grew up in the Upper Midwest and was raised to reserve judgement. His education consisted of an ivy league school and he fought in WW1. Nick moved east to experience a new lifestyle and start a new career in the bond business. He is seen to be raised to be a hard-working person from a wealthy family. His father agrees to finance him for a year and he set off. In chapter one, he tells readers that he views himself as very open-minded which results in others telling him their secrets. Nick has set standards for himself to keep to his morals and values. Throughout the novel Nick slowly drifts away from his values and becomes the opposite of what he once viewed himself. Nick becomes dishonest when he hides the affair from Tom. Nick becomes very judgmental throughout the
