Obesity in USA: Airlines want to charge overweight passengers for two seats. Hospitals deny emergency treatments to people who need to lose weight. Firms don’t hire people who are fat. Sounds familiar? Well, in the last couple of years, obesity has been a top topic in newspapers, online forums, and so forth. There were discussions about definition and causes of it; and, so many opinions from so many people. The sad truth is, Americans are getting fatter. According to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), more than one-third (36.5%) of U.S. Adults are obese (CDC, 2016). Most of these people have heart diseases, diabetes and cancer. As stated by CDC, the medical costs of obese people in 2008 were $1,429 higher than those who weight normal (CDC, 2016). But what are the causes? Is obesity genetics or lifestyle? Even if some people have a gene, which can cause obesity (King, 2014, pg. 332), it is also about what and how much a person eats.
