Discuss the role of security and penetration testers by defining concepts such as hacker, cracker, ethical hacker, and script kiddies. Include in your discussion the classifications of ethical hackers and do you think that hacking can be an ethical occupation? A hacker is a general term which classifies anyone that breaks into a computer/ system without proper authorization. While the rest of the terms in this list are very specific in methods, hacker is a general term which could include the terms below. A cracker is someone who breaks into a computer without authorized access. This is commonly found in someone cracking a Windows SAM file and cracking the hashed credential information to gain access to a system that is not their own. An ethical hacker is a term very similar to hacker in that it is a person who uses any methods necessary to break into a computer or system without authorization. The difference here is that the owner of the system benefits from this hacking as a way to determine and prove current vulnerabilities and backdoors of a system to eventually use these means to improve the security. In regards to ethical hackers there are a few general terms used to describe their knowledge prior to penetration testing. Black hat ethical

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
