There are several different sections to the system development life cycle (SDLC). How it is utilized can vary depending on the organization. There are usually six steps in the process. The SDLC describes the development of a system from the time it begins until the time it is updated. Each step has some type of information that is carried forward to the next step in the cycle. The steps are defined as: Preliminary investigation - The purpose of this investigation is to define and evaluate the situation relatively quickly to see if it is worthy of further study. The preliminary investigation typically examines the nature of the problem, possible solutions, and the approximate costs and benefits of each proposed solution. System analysis - is the phase of system development in which the current system and identified problems are studied in depth and the needs of system users are assessed.
