Benjamin Cummings 6 th , 7 th or 8 th editions. If you buy a book online please expedite the shipping. You may also rent a book. The book should be used to supplement the lectures and should not be heavily depended on but it is a good reference to look up and review material that we have covered. The primary resource will be class materials posted on Blackboard (not the text). All questions for the quizzes and exams come directly from the materials I provide you. COURSE OBJECTIVES: The goals of the course are to allow you to: - understand the human body and how its parts work together as a whole - make health decisions for yourself and others - attain scientific literacy which will allow you to evaluate scientific discoveries - have knowledge to evaluate and make bioethical decisions - understand how humans play a role in the environment and be able to make informed decisions about our impact on it - acquire the skill to see the big picture (a whole system) and how the parts all relate - be a little more curious about the world around you and your own body Think about this before and while you take this class: I once heard that education is one of the few things in which Americans want less for their money. Don’t worry this will not be the case in our class. You will get plenty for what you are paying for! 1. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY : Academic dishonesty includes cheating on exams and plagiarism (handing in other people’s works as your own). If you are dishonest you will earn at a minimum a 0% on that assignments and be referred to The Community Standards and Student Responsibility office that may impose additional sanctions. Please refer to the Ohio University handbook. I have a zero tolerance policy for cheating/plagiarism. Also, be aware that you cannot resubmit assignments from a previous BIOS 1030 class or any other class. The Ohio University's Student Code states "Section D: Prohibited Conduct: Multiple Submissions: Submitting the same academic work for credit more than once unless specifically authorized by the instructor of record". 2. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
