General Physics Lab PHY 2048L – SECTION 001 MICHAEL CHABY Lab date: 17 May 2018 Report date: 22 May 2018 LAB REPORT #1 Mass, Volume and Density Instructor: Samaneh Rikhtehgaran Purpose: The purpose of experiment one was to measure and record the mass, volume, and density of various objects using certain tools in order to get the most accurate readings possible. The objects that were measured in this lab were: A steel ball, an aluminum black, a brass cylinder and finally an aluminum annular cylinder. To measure these objects we used various tools such as a Vernier caliper, a Micrometer caliper, and also a laboratory, or triple beam balance. After my lab partners and I measured and recorded the date for the objects, we used that data to calculate other quantities such as volume and density. These were used to calculate our error margin when taking measurements. We used the average to measure our error margin by comparing each trial to the average of all trials.

Theory/ methods: The tools that were used in experiment one consisted of a Vernier caliper, a micrometer caliper, and a laboratory, or triple beam balance. The objects used in this experiment were a steel ball, an aluminum block, a brass cylinder, and an aluminum annular cylinder. Each measurement was taken three times for each object.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
