Oculomotor Nerve- responsible for movement of the eye IV. Trochlear Nerve- Movement of the eye V. Trigeminal Nerve- splits into three nerve branches; controls taste, facial movement and tongue movement VI. Abducens Nerve- responsible for eye movement VII. Facial Nerve- face, tongue, taste VIII. Vestibulocochlear Nerve- hearing and balance IX. Glossopharyngeal Nerve- controls pharynx, larynx, uvula, tongue, epiglottis X. Vagus Nerve- heart, lungs, digestion, heat and pressure, taste, tongue movement XI. Spinal Accessory- spinal reflexes XII. Hypoglossal Nerve- main nerve for tongue movement Brainstem The Brainstem has 3 segments. 1. Midbrain 2. Pons 3. Medulla Oblongata Lobes of the Brain Cerebral Cortex/Frontal Lobe A.) Anterior most portion of the brain Responsible for: Critical Thinking and emotions B.) Problem Solving C.) Integration, perception, and comprehension of incoming information. D.) Personal Identity E.) Sarcasm Parietal Lobe Coordinates vision and proprioception. Contains a very large portion of the optic pathway. Temporal Lobe Contains the speech centers of the brain A.) Wernicke’s: in the event of C.V.S (cerebrovascular stroke) the patient will become a word salad. B.) Broca's: In the event of a C.V.S the patient will have broken speech. Occipital Lobe
