Megan Lee Prof. Sanchez AFAS 371 April 28 2018 Romance Love connections and relationships in movies usually reflects idea about family and community, traditions, and commitments to and between black communities. According to Belinda Edmondson, “the first black romances in the nineteenth century focuses on social upliftment over eroticism” (pg. 6). The films of the modules suggest a larger connection. There were many relationships throughout the movies but the story line suggest that those relationships were a representation of art and love of community. In Brown Sugar, the writers were about to weave something deeper within the affections between the plethora of relationships that were showed throughout the movie. In the movie Brown Sugar, Sydney is a writer who had just left her job to be an editor for a New York hip-hop magazine while Dre is an executive for a New York based hip-hop record company.
