The French Revolution and The Enlightenment Amaris Francis World History Period. 7
May 17, 2018 The French Revolution Then French Revolution is a period when the people of France overthrew the monarchy and took control of the government. The French Revolution lasted for about 10 years, from 1789 to 1799, according to Hepburn, A. (2005). During this time Louis XVI was the ruler of France but people did not like the type of decisions he was making. For example, Louis’s wife Marie Antoinette was taking money out of the France treasury but, instead of stopping what she was doing, Louis took away funds from other areas to pay for things. The funds he took raised the taxes of the Third estate which angered them and later lead to a revolt. The social and political structure of France was completely changed. For example, “It put an end to the French monarchy, feudalism, and took political power from the Catholic church,” (Hepburn, A. 2005).
