Cheat Sheet Tips for Requesting Interviews Prof. Zook 1) Not all stories require formal requests for interviews. If you are writing a short news story or a breaking news story on deadline, it’s always best to either call or show up and talk to people directly in person. Prepare your questions and simply start asking them as soon as you get them on the phone, or they answer the door. Same goes for beat notes. These are quick memos that explain some initial interaction you’ve had with sources, and don’t usually require requests for in-depth interviews. 2) When sending requests by e-mail, type something compelling in the subject line, to make sure it doesn’t get deleted. 3) If someone referred you to this source type, “referred to you by X.” 4) If you’re writing for a known publication, type, “request from X magazine.” 5) If not, simply type, “media request for interview.” 6) Always follow up immediately with a phone call, to make sure that they’ve received the e-mail. Follow up again the next day.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
