Luis Moreno Period 5 9-20-17 Why did Americans pass the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882? During the 1800s the United States government passed many acts to stop certain things from escalated. During 1848 Chinese traveled to United States to mine for gold. In 1852 the Chinese immigration rises to 25,000 and little by little jobs are getting occupied by Chinese immigrants. Once Americans start noticing no more money nor jobs they start ordering acts to stop immigrants from entering the country. 1880 there are approximately 106,000 Chinese in America. Finally in 1882 the Chinese Exclusion Act is passed. It prohibits Chinese immigration. In one year, Chinese immigration drops from 40,000 to 23,000. Today we are gonna look at why Americans passed the Act. In 1882 Americans passed the Chinese Exclusion Act. In document A the Americans explain they passed the since Chinese people were taking all the jobs and had more money than the average American family. “ Ah Coy Chinaman plenty of work, plenty money; plenty to eat.
