CHN 151 Chong Zhang SID: 951503285 Final Sequence Analysis Essay March 22, 2018 The movie clip we see is from A Simple Life (2012) which directed by Ann Hui (director of Hong Kong). Plot happens in the end of the movie, about what happened after the death of the Ah Tao. Generally speaking, I think the theme reflected in this film clip can be summarized in two points. Firstly, the director hope that the film will let the public to care about and pay attention to the old people by describing the specific group of lonely old people, because many elderly people in Hong Kong live alone in nursing homes in their later years. Secondly, the movie clip shows a kind of strong feelings between Roger and Ah Tao. On the one hand, this clip reflects the living conditions of different types of old people in Hong Kong and shows the loneliness and desolation of old men's later life. As the aging of Hong Kong becomes more and more serious, many old people are forced to move into nursing homes because too many busy people like Roger in busy city have no time or energy to take care of the elderly. And old people do not want to be the burden of young people, so they have to endure the loneliness and desolation of their old age. In this film clip, Uncle Jian represents a kind of version of old man who still
