AP Human Geography Study Sheet.pdf - The Crude Birth Rate...

This preview shows 1 out of 4 pages.

The Crude Birth Rate has been decreasing due to better healthcare, access to education and contraception especially in developing countries. Developing countries tend to have a higher share of CBR , but now with improved education and health care, this lowers the birth rates. CBR is the total number of births in a year for every 1,000 people alive in the society. The population has been increasing at a slower rate and the NIR is declining because of lower birth rates. Natural Increase Rate which is the percentage by which the population grows in a year. Human Geography is culture features, such as economic activities and cities Physical Geography concentrates on the distribution of natural features, such as landforms and vegetation. Place is a specific point on Earth distinguished by a particular characteristic Region is an area of Earth distinguished by a distinctive combination of cultural and physical features Scale: the relationship between the portion of Earth being studied and Earth as a whole Space: refers to the physical gap or interval between two objects GPS is used to determine the precise position of something on Earth. GIS (Geographic Information System) is a computer system that captures, stores, queries, analyzes and displays geographic data. This system is more accurate than a handwritten version of a map. Globalization has boosted the economy. It has also helped people in other countries, by giving them jobs. For example the spread of McDonald's. It has spread to so many different countries and places, giving people in those local areas jobs. Local cultures are threatened by “pop” culture. Globalization has boosted the economy by spreading ideas which brings more technology and urbanization. Thomas Malthus’s theory predicts that the world’s population would increase faster than resources. Malthus, unfortunately, failed to anticipate that poorer (developing) countries would have the most rapid population growth because of the transfer of medical technology from wealthier (developed) countries.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
