1. In Dr. Schiller’s lecture, he describes how defects in socialism caused the decline of a prosperous economy in Cuba. Cuba in the 1950’s is what Las Vegas is to us today. Cuba was a huge tourist site with one of the highest ranks in televisions, phones and GDP in Latin America. After the Revolution in Cuba, the main stream of Cuba’s economy, sugar, plummeted causing them to no longer be number 1 in the world. The dictator Castro took over the economy saying that he was not a communist or a socialist but, after confiscating homes, banks and religious properties, he declared Cuba as a socialist nation in the 1960’s. The effects of the economic decline were apparent in Havana. The average person made 20dollars a month, it was illegal for them to do any job that was
