DaisiesThe film Daisiesby Vera Chytilová was overall entertaining, educational, and eye-opening. The film did a superior job in showcasing ideas against hegemony in the Czechoslovak society. The two main characters, both named Marie went against the norms of women in that time period. It was enjoyable how the film portrayed such strong messages while still being humorous. The girls in the film thought the best response to a “bad” world was to “go bad” too. Some of the symbolism was hard to decode, for example the pinned up butterflies. At first I did not think anything of the pinned up butterflies as a symbol of lacking freedom. Until it was told that the girls were rebelling against the pinned up butterflies in the man’s apartment. I viewed Daisiesas an almost abstract film, both in the cinematography and the symbolism it contained. The film was active in the way that it included different lightings and colors, noises, and it’s use of fast forwarding clips. This dynamic filming and editing style went along perfectly with how
