Stephanie Fritzius Karen Wang CAS 100 June 3, 2018 Rhetorical Analysis on Robert F. Kennedy’s Speech Robert F. Kennedy’s plan on April 4, 1968 was to attend a campaign. Unfortunately, he received devastating news about Martin Luther King being assassinated and had to come up with a speech and address the public in Indianapolis. Against the advice of the police, where Robert Kennedy was told he should not address the people regarding the murder of Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy insisted on doing so. He was instructed it would be very dangerous and he would have minimal security, but Robert Kennedy believed the risk needed to be taken, for someone had to address the people and try to gain control, over the rage that was brewing. Even under those circumstances, he insisted that it was something he had to do. Culture influences Roberts rhetorical choices because he had to inform a majority black audience about the news. Unfortunately, for him being white it would be intimidating, because Martin Luther King was killed by a white person. Surprisingly, Robert was able to respectfully connect with his audience and gain their trust without having the disturbance breakout that was anticipated.
