ARLT 100  Reading: “When We Were Good” September 12, 2007  Even though they were impersonating it, they were bridging a gap and helped to  create what became the early 60s folk scene  Busking: performers stand on a street corners and play for money  Leadbelly song covered by Nirvana (“In the pines;” “Where did you sleep last  night?”) about decapitation (ironic because Kurt Cobain almost decapitated  himself when he killed himself shortly after) Lomax: responsible for recording many artists, discovered Leadbelly in a prison,  where he was serving time for murder charges.  Leadbelly himself was very concerned about his relationship with the Lomax’s.  The Lomax’s put him to work as a servant in their household. Later Leadbelly  sued them for putting him to work and for taking a portion of his earnings.
