She is someone who dislikes controversy. Rachel is a fearful character at the beginning of the play. She is a character that changes throughout the play. She changes through her experiences and her decisions. The reader truly realises Rachel’s metamorphosis when comparing her character in the beginning and the end of the play. The authors introduce Rachel when she goes to visit Cates in jail. She is nervous because she does not know what to expect.
