UNIT V ESSAY2Why The North Was VictoriousThe North’s victory can be attributed to many factors and key victories on the battlefield. The north started with a strategic and overall military supremacy advantage, however the South did have the motivation and a sense of patriotism, which compared with the colonists who foughtin the War of Independence, on their side. The South believed they were fighting a tyrannical government that continuously tried to extend its authority beyond what was granted in the Constitution.The North had a significant advantage when it came to manpower and it’s recruiting pool of military age men. The North also had superior manufacturing capabilities. According to Miller, Maslowski, and Feis (2012), “in 1860 the northern states had 110,000 manufacturing establishments, while the southern states only had 18,000” (p.144). This inequity would affect the South’s ability to produce the materials and supplies needed to sustain a prolonged war. Throughout the Civil War there were two theaters of operation, the western and eastern theaters. The North had a major victory in the western theater that turned the tide of the war and
