Butterfield, Associate Professor, MBA, CPA E-mail: [email protected] Office: SFEBB 4111 Office Hours: by appointment only Course Textbook: Cornerstones of Financial & Managerial Accounting Rich.Jones.Heitger.Mowen.Hansen 2E Course Description: A broad survey of important topics in both financial and managerial accounting intended for business majors. Course Objectives: To understand the role of accounting and financial information in goal-setting and decision making To understand the fundamentals of financial and managerial accounting To be able to understand and analyze financial statements and to communicate this information to the average non-accountant To be able to apply accounting concepts in professional and personal settings CengageNow/ Emailing: Your homework assignments will be done on Cengage Now so you will need to check this frequently for the due dates. It is your responsibility to check the course site (or have the email forwarded to another account). If you email me, please email to [email protected] ; I will reply within 48 hours. My Role: My role as the instructor is to present, explain, and discuss financial/managerial accounting in a manner that is readily understandable by the average student who spends at least six hours a week ( outside of class ) studying for ACCT 2600. In addition, my job is to evaluate and fairly apply grades based on the criteria described below. 1 Please keep in mind, that although effort will likely improve performance, your grade is not dependent on your effort; your grade is dependent on your performance in my class. Specifically, your grade depends on your participation in class, on your quizzes, assignments, and on your exam scores. My Expectations of You: Preparation: Be prepared for all class periods. Read the assigned chapters before we discuss the material in class. Be ready to ask and answer questions in class. Check Canvas frequently for announcements. Respect: Show each other and the instructor respect by participating and listening attentively during class discussions, by arriving / departing promptly to/from class, and by submitting quality projects, quizzes, and tests. Responsibility: You are the only person who can make sure you learn the material. Take responsibility for your learning and performance in this class. Ask questions if you don’t understand; I will assume you understand if you don’t ask. If you would like to discuss additional topics or specific skills during class, bring them up in class or email them to me. This is your class – make it useful for you!
