The purpose of the article is to inform the reader of the effect of positive or negative perfectionism has
on the participants personalities regarding the Big Five Personality Factors. The purpose relates to the
personality development by developing a specific measure that differentiates positive and negative
perfectionism in athletes giving a high or low score on positive or negative perfectionism.
The hypothesis of the study was that “athletes have been found to score lower on negative
perfectionism than other groups (Terry-Short et al., 1995) and so may be hypothesized to differ from a
clinical group on personality traits” (Egan, 2015).
