2AbstractThis paper examines the importance of creating a Personal Learning Network (PLN). It’s apowerful online life-changing platform that brings professionals with a common goal together andidentifies strengths and weaknesses of individuals which provide adaptive solutions to thechallenging factors. The paper also examines the different tools used in creating a PLN foreffective communication and benefits.
3PERSONAL LEARNING NETWORKPersonal Learning Network (PLN) as a new paradigm is a platform that brings togetherlearners and intellectuals with a common goal to share new ideas, thoughts and have interest onthe same topics (Brauer, Schmidt, & Winschu 2013). These people are from a diverseenvironment with different learning culture. The most common learning environment is theclassroom, but there is educational reform in the 21stCentury, as technology brings peopletogether in virtual forms. The importance of the PLN is that people contribute their knowledgeand share resources (Marin, Negre, & Perez 2014). The social media play out an important role inthe development of PLN. As indicated by (Cabero 2007), the Internet has increasingly changedfrom its depositary form of information to converting a social instrument for the elaboration ofknowledge.NETWORK AND TOOLS TO CREATE A PLNThe networks cannot be overemphasized in the learning environment. The social networksplay important roles in the lives of individuals as they bring people together to share their personaland professional experiences. The internet is a worldwide technology that provides participationand education to the society (Riel & Fulton, 2001). The world can barely survive withouttechnology. There are several tools available to create a PLN for example, Facebook, Twitter,LinkedIn, Instagram, and Google+. I prefer to use the LinkedIn and Facebook platform, as Iconsider them as sites with more professionals than the others. Over the past, I have connectedwith people that we share common professional goals. This is not to insinuate that the others lackprofessional networking, but its my preference based on my experience.
