This Week's Writi 1. Franklin and Red Jacket both support and defend the Native Americans. What arguments do they make in common? What prompted the writing of each piece? Do you find both authors reliable? Why or why not? Benjamin Franklin and Red Jacket both made compelling arguments in support of the Native Americans. One key argument they made is that all the Native Americans want to do is follow their way and want you to follow your own. Red Jacket put it well when he said “We do not wish to destroy your religion or take it from you. We only want to enjoy our own.” ( Red Jacket, 1805) It was also clear that the Native Americans did not understand Christianity because in their tradition stories were kept orally and not on paper. Franklin did a good job expressing this in the anecdote about the Native American selling beaver pelts saying “You see they have not yet learned those little good things, that we need no meetings to be instructed
