Section 3 (1) of the Theft Act of the Island of Dummykana states as follows: A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another, with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it. John parked his car in the parking lot of the IGA Supermarket and went into the store without locking his doors. Saddam noticed John left his car opened so approached the car and noticed a bag laying on the seat. Saddam reaches into the car and took the bag which contained approximately $7,000 in cash. CCTV of the Supermarket were reviewed and Saddam was identified by the head of security since Saddam is an ex-employee of the store. Applying the facts to the law, discuss every element of the above quoted offence vis-a-vis the facts. In order for a person to be found guilty of theft, the prosecution must prove all five elements of theft. Both the actus rea and the mens rea must be proven in order for a person to be found guilty.
